A Life Speaks: Gloria House, 2019 Kresge Eminent Artist / for the Kresge Foundation. Book development, art direction, design, layout, photography, art management, print management.

From 2019–2022, I art-directed the Kresge Eminent Artist Monographs, an annual series of books published by the Kresge Foundation. Each book was conceived, designed, and produced to best serve the work of the individual artist.

A Life Speaks is the first volume I produced in this series. The 2019 Eminent Artist Monograph celebrates Dr. Gloria House, also known as Aneb Kgositsile, an educator, activist, and poet.

7 x 9 in, 112 pages, smythe-sewn paperback.

Check out the other Eminent Artist Monographs I art-directed:
2020—Marie Woo
2021—Shirley Woodson
2022—Olayami Dabls

Copies of the Eminent Artist Monographs are available free to US residents, by completing this form.

Front cover design, featuring a photo illustration based on a photograph by Monica Morgan. We used photos from throughout Dr. House’s life as art for the covers and section openers. To give it a consistent look, I gave the photographs an oversized-halftone treatment that suggests you’re looking at an enlarged photo from the news. This meshed nicely with the oversized-poetry-text vibe of the titles.
