Blowhole formed in Colorado Springs in the late 80s, and coalesced into a live quartet in 1990. After bassist Patrick Barber moved to Seattle in 1991, Jerman and Barber formed small Blowhole units in their respective locations, and began recording music by swapping 4-track cassettes through the mail.

Innards was one of the first of our cassette albums featuring that asynchronous collaboration technique. The tape was originally released in 1993 by Patrick's label-at-the-time, Apraxia Music Research.
